Hi Everyone!

We have noticed a lot of spam in the comments. The only way we can minimize this is to add the letter codes that you type in when you post a new message. I know its a pain and hard to read at times. However, this will make our experience much better!

I just finished reading an incredibly interesting book, "Take the Measure of the Man", by Dan Aaron.

Dan (since passed away) was one of the pioneers of the cable TV industry and co-founder of Comcast. He had a tragic upbringing in Germany, then the US, and he boldly recounts how his summers at SGF saved him well into adulthood. He rose from camper to chairman of SGFVC.

This is ironic, because, I have been friends with Dan's son, Ken for over 20 years and have even met Dan on a number of ocassions, but did not know we have this in common.

I will see Dan's wife Gerrie at their grandchildren's b'nai mitzvah in June...I will tell her what we've been doing. I know Dan would have been thrilled.

Does anybody remember Robert Gordon or Mike Friedman? They were part of that bunk C-D connection somewhere around 1970-73. I know that's a preety long span, but hey it's 2007 and we're still talking about SGF!!!.
And by the way--where is Steve Funt??

Robert Gordon. His family owned a company of some sorts in the Far Northeast. Skinny, dark hair, glasses.

Robert's father had a sign store- "Gordon Signs", on Bustleton Ave. The last I heard, which was probably 20+ years ago, he was at Harvard U.
He may have become a lawyer or prosecutor in NY. He had a sister Francine who went to Camp Council.

Hey guys, keep checking your e-mail and the website, for what's going on with our July '07 reunion.

There may be revisions to the original plan (date's the same) but either way you can count on a great day, or great weekend reliving that SGF live that I know is as ingrained in your sould as it is in mine.

Give us your input too.

wink To all SGF'ers inquiring about seeing Murry Kramer in Damn Yankees,
we haven't picked a date to go yet, as we wanted to coordinate with as many interested in going as possible.

Murray is recreating the role that he had performed several times at camp, so I thought it would be a perfect show for some SGF'ers to go see. big grin

This is at Footlighters Theater in
Berwyn.

eek! Showtimes are:
April 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28, May 4, 5 at 8pm,

I just found out about this website from my good friend Joey Kravitz. I attended SGF from 1965 through 1969 and was in bunks Camanche, Featherhead, Hopi, and Bunk 1 on "the Hill". It was a great character building experience for me and I have wonderful memories of the place. Unfortunately I won't be able to attend this years reunion but will try in the future. To whoever is responsible for organizing all of this I'd like to say: Keep up the good work !

Ready for Evening Activity? How about an SGF Night at the Theater! And, just like at camp, this years production is Damn Yankees, starring our own, Murray Kramer as “Applegate”

It opens Friday the 13th at Footlighters Theatre in Berwyn (Tickets 610-296-9245).

Anyone interested in going please email me(myleskauffman@comcast.net). It would be great if a group of us could go together to cheer for our camp boy.

your secret-ning!

Dusty duffles strewn about
scraggly boys, no whereabout

Aromas of cocoa lilting in air
around the flagpole with rumpley
hair.

The Earl of Morning brought to us each day...a regal excitement
in brilliant display.

So, mystery scribe that you think you are...

This old Spencer guy won't go too far...

Hallowed memories you state I'm the conniver...

I am only one conjurer...you are
the driver.

since I missed the get together's and could not share any memorizes, here are a few that are always in my head:

1. learning to swim in the morning when the water was real cold and the air temp was not yet hot.
2. eating green apples that grew on a tree walking down to ridge head quarters. ( tree was before head quarters)
3. eating cinnamon french toast for the first time.
4. putting salt on my watermelon
5. proof given to me that candy does fall from the sky
6. realizing Friday night services can be fun
7. learning my first bad words
8. learning my first dirty poems
9. learning what to jokes to play on campers when you become a councilor
10. having memorizes the rest of your life.

I just talked to another former SGF Camper. His name is Joe Kravitz from the Northeast and had no idea about our on-going activities. He went for about 5 years in the late 60's and early 70's.
He is turning 51 this year. This makes me wonder how many other former campers don't know about this Web-Site. We should consider an add in the Jewish Exponent.

Eric,
thanks for telling Joe about the site. There are alot of former campers who don't know about site. We are planning on doing some marketing in the near future to recruit former SGF'er. The best thing is what you are doing informing friends who may have went to SGF. Keep it up. By the way tell Joe to sign in so we can put him on our mailing list. We also have people go to the site but doesn't sign in

The Exponent works quite well. A few years back, there was a reunion for all graduates of Central, Girls, Olney and Germantown and their feeder junior high schools who were turning 60 that year. The steering committee placed an Exponent ad which helped to draw a lot of lost people out of the woodwork.

I was there… sharing with you all
The party was nice…we all had a ball.

Impressed by the event…Impressed by the crowd.
Saw some new faces…greeted so proud.

To be of SGF History…none will compare
Rebuild SGF…others will glare.

Lets all together …send one child to camp
Marking his soul…with the SGF stamp

In years ahead we will send two three or four
Our vision will grow to send even more.

These childs days at camp--- will turn to nights…
Then we will tell tales of Collegeville frights..

The boys will go home …leave with a sigh…
Their souls embedded with a HAPPY cry.

Okay Mr. Lorax, here me loud and clear

come to me, come ever so near,

cause what I will tell you, you'll want to know

Perhaps it will put an end to this show

Your nom de plume...has lost it's cover

Your incognito exposed by a brother!

You can continue this repartee if you wish

You can serve it with your red and blue fish,

Completing this mystery I still will conceal,

But a clue is the end to this rhyme!

Gentlemen, hats off to an extremely successful re-birth of the SGF Club!!! Kudos to all of my brethren who put the event together.

As I said last night, SGF is engrained in our souls, and now is the time to pass the torch so others can be touched the same way we have.

Small steps (sponsoring a kid to go to camp) to larger steps (resurrecting SGFVC as a camp) is the vision and I see it becoming a reality. Help in anyway that you can.

Now, lets get ready for the SGF Overnighter this July! Everything that is touched by SGF is gold!

Now that you´re here, the word of the Lorax seems perfectly clear.
UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
nothing is going to get better. It´s not. SO...
Catch! calls the Once-ler. He lets something fall.
It´s a Truffula Seed. It´s the last one of all!
You´re in charge of the last of the Truffula Seeds.
And Truffula Trees are what everyone needs.
Plant a new Truffula. Treat it with care.
Give it clean water. And feed it fresh air.
Grow a forest. Protect it from axes that hack.
Then the Lorax and all of his friends may come back.

I will plant the Truffala Trees, but perhaps not in Collegeville as you please...

For you see Mr. Lorax, the ground isn't sacred...it's the boys and the spirit, unbridled and naked...

Tis the spirit we desire to replant and unearth...put it anywhere for the holy rebirth

SGF you see and we have found...is not the place, not the ground...but a kindred spirit born out of love for those without...blessed from above.

Well Mr. Spencer I dew respect your words, but somehow i still hear the sounds of those birds. For it was those birds, those smells, and those trees, that use to bring all those boyz to their knees.
Now the Lorax agrees with all your words and your pleas about creating a camp 100 degrees.
Imagine your wishes all could come true and now imagine them happening with Collegeville Dew.

Sometimes when something is right up in front
Now will know –not even S. Funt
My memory so bare-But I did find out where.

S Funt and S Glass you came from the past…
Put all of this …to surely last…

Gather the names and all the old fax
Never forget about the lorax

Lorax…you silence is safe and secure
But do you know me or are you not sure.

(464) What a great night. It was so nice sharing memories with old friends and new. Not just memories of camp (although that was a very important part of the night), but also of growing up after camp, and growing up in our neighborhoods. Finding out that there were people at camp that were your neighbors and you didn't even know it. Kudos and many, many thanks to the people responsible for such a wonderful night.
